Well, that link provided a web page that looked exactly like the regular web page. Oh well. I like the bright mode anyway.
You have to do the code Matt showed for it to go to night mode.
Well, thanks, it worked, but I had to get out of my literal head to make it work. B does not equal b and A does not equal a. As you can guess, not a gamer.
Love the idea! And the name.
Full disclosure, I understood the night panel reference but not the Konami code reference. Mind you I’m not a gamer at all, but as a predominantly mobile reader, anyway, I’ll just hang tight for a button/touchscreen toggle thingy.
Thanks!
Reading the headline, my mind did immediately go to Saab, but I imagined Night Panel being another Torch fever dream and expected to read a work of short fiction rather than a discussion of a site feature.
Coming back to earth, it’d be nice to have an option where the dark/light appearance of the website followed your OS’s setting (in addition to manual dark/light options for those who prefer them). Perhaps even make the dark/light/auto setting persist for members only; some other sites to which I subscribe do something like that. (CSS color-scheme / prefers-color-scheme is specifically what I mean.)
YESSS! Thank you! I love the 50s Autorama styling but the brightness level here is messing up circadian rhythms of everything within 50 ft of my screen.
Edit: also the Konami code is up up up down down left right left right ab ab start, so…please fix.
Night Panel is good, Twilight Sentinel is better?
While you’re having fun with site formatting, please have 8-bit mode where all the images are badly pixelated and the text is in a cool old DOS font
Please bring it to production now!
I hate bright white backgrounds. I use an extension to convert most sites to dark mode, but the downside is that it slows them down. This would be a lovely addition.
Fabulous. The only thing that would make it better is if there was a little dial somewhere that allows one to crank the green font brightness up/down.
Damn man, breaking out the big guns to get people to become members!

Timely, I’m replaying Doom 2016 (aka DOOM) right now.
I saw GOG had that on sale recently 🙂
I love the
dark modenight panel version of the site!we need it now. Stop with the staging – promote to production you cowards!
As a rule I dislike dark mode outside of my Terminal and VSCode windows but using the Konami code makes this cool as hell.
YES!!!! Thank you so much for this!
the Konami code gives you 30 lives, Matt
I didn’t even have an NES and I knew that code. Is this how Jason Bourne felt?
It was on other games and systems, too. There was a GameBoy TMNT game that let you refill your health once per game if you pause and enter the code.
It worked in most of the Konami games I tried it on it one way or aonther. I remeber doing it on Lifeforce and blowing my older brother’s mind.
This is the day I’ve been waiting for!
This is the night I’ve been waiting for.
You merely adopted it. I was born in it.
