Michigan still does feel like home in a way that LA does not. Yet. We’re getting there, but 9.5 years in The Mitten has inertia, which is why I’m so excited to be BACK! Yeehawww! Of course, it’s just until Tuesday, but hey, that’s three full days in Southeast Michigan. I’m pumped to hang out in my old spots.
I’m especially excited to stop by my favorite budget-oriented junkyard, U Pull ‘N Save in Pontiac, Michigan. Why, you might ask?
Look at this:
That’s three Pontiac Azteks in stock! And what’s more, they’re sitting in a junkyard built on the foundation of an old Pontiac stamping plant! I need to snag a trim piece for the rear passenger’s-side door.
On Monday, though, we should meet up.

I do wish I could have joined, as it was a beautiful night, and looks to have been a great turnout based on the pics. However, I had just driven 4 hours back from up north, had to install some new headlight harnesses in my wife’s car (which is why the Volt made the trip this time and not the Cruze Diesel) and I really did not have the time to drive on down.
Thanks for the invite David. It was great fun until the end, when my car heard me bragging about how reliable my 2009 Aspen Hybrids are. For all of those that waited with me for the tow truck, thank you. It was great to meet all of you. You’ll be happy to know it more-less healed itself this afternoon. Yeah, I am just thrilled to know it does that.
My gosh, that’s hallowed ground. Please perform a ritual to resurrect the greatest dead brand in GM’s graveyard while you’re there. The people crave excitement. Driving excitement. They built excitement. You know what to do.
We ride.
Get on your Pontiac and RIDE! Pontiac RIDE!
I’ll take one 2025 GTO, please.
Or at least a 2004-06 GTO in good condition.
“Michigan still does feel like home in a way that LA does not.”
Probably the lack of rust. Sadly I won’t be able to make it.
Nope. Detroit is different. If you know, you know. If you don’t, that’s cool too.
That’s not a part of the lexicon to care.
Just RSVP’d, looking forward to being there.
I can’t wait for next week’s story:
Here’s how many Aztec parts you can in a carry-on bag, and here’s how many I smuggled on board as my ‘personal item’
Updated with a TSA statement a few hours later
-Here’s what happened when I tried to cook spaghetti and take a shower in the mile high bathroom
-Here’s what happened when I asked an airport restaurant if I could use their dishwasher to wash car parts
-Here’s what happened when I tried to use the X-ray machine to scan an engine for defects
-Here’s what happened when I tried to bring oil-soaked shirts through TSA
Do one next time you’re in Europe as well please! Have fun!
I’ll be there, good luck at the U pull!
I’ll try to be there!
I’ll be there. And that trim piece seems impossible to remove without breaking all the clips, but just glue that thing on,
Get back Loretta…..
Dangit, I was in Michigan last weekend! Y’all have fun.
Aw, man. My Sunbird and I will be there one week after this for Radwood 2024. Was hoping it’d be the next Monday! Y’all have fun.
You know that Family Guy joke where Peter says he really loves it when they say the name of the movie or show diagetically in the show? That’s how I feel about usernames.
Roadhouse!
“The only way for me to solve this crisis is to be Superman IV: The Quest For Peace.”
Glad to be of service.
Can’t wait!
Hell yeah! I’ll be there :).
Can’t RSVP on Facebook as I don’t use it, but I plan on being there.
