Congratulations Mercedes! Most of us never get to the point in life where we can be who we truly are. We should all admire you for even getting close to that point. You have lots of fans out here in readerland. Please keep amazing us all.

Whomever is watching Plex just watched a great one: Lockout, which is a totally awesome Escape From LA remake with legitimately tough Guy Pearce in the Kurt Russell role and Spacecatraz in the LA role. Check it out!

I’m so happy that showed up here because I had completely forgotten the name of it and occasionally have the itch to watch it again.

I’m more interested in their online reviews:

Rust Never Sleeps

Documentary covering Neil Young’s October 22, 1978 concert performance at the Cow Palace.

David Tracy: Verified āœ“

Very misleading ā€“ title writes a check this film absolutely refuses to cash. Turned off 10 minutes in and would have asked for my money back if I’d paid anything to see it. Don’t fall for the false promises. I am looking forward to that Alec Baldwin movie coming out during the holidays, but even for that I’m waiting until I can see it at my future in-laws’ house ā€“ they’ve got cable.

It’s software that you can point at a collection of video files, and it lets you browse them with an interface like a streaming service. You can then give access to friends and family so they can stream from it too.
(Usually the videos in question are pirated).
A quick search will tell you more

Mercedes, congratulations on figuring out who you are and having the courage to move forward with it, consequences be damned. Plenty of people will never take that kind of chance; ā€œThe mass of men live lives of quiet desperationā€ – Thoreau

I’m sorry to hear you have trouble making friends. From your writing, you seem like an outgoing, adventurous person who could meet many like minded people who share your diverse interests (planes, trains, automobiles, motorcycles, campers and probably other non transportation related interests).

Making friends as adults is a noted issue in America. When we are young and in school we are surrounded by people the same age tuned in to the same music, movies, and pop culture. Even if you interests diverge, you’re likely to find other like minded individuals to hang with. Once you are out of that microcosm, you end up in the work place among different generations and interests.

At any rate, I wish you all the best.

Aww thank you! Funny enough, I’m somewhat shy in real life. I sort of just push myself to go outside of my bubble. Sadly, it’s an odd time right now. Over the past few years I’ve learned that a lot of people who I thought were friends really weren’t, and they were largely associating with me in an attempt to get free legal work out of my wife. One of those people recently threatened to murder us, which was pretty terrifying.

Thankfully, I’m very slowly making new friends and a couple of my childhood friends stuck around. So, it sucks to have lost who I used to think would be friends forever, but not all is lost. I recently joined the Chicago railfanning scene and I’m having fun watching them teach me stuff I didn’t know about trains.

So, if we get to be friends, it comes with free legal work from Sheryl? Heeeyyyy gurrlll! Want to get brunch?

More seriously, of the few trans people I know, I’m closer to than before their transition. I admire bravery and honesty.

Eh, friends are overrated. They ask you to help them move but are busy when you ask, knowingly give terrible advice just to watch the inevitable train wreck and if they set you up with anyone it’s with people on the bad side of the crazy/hot curve they need otherwise occupied.

First congrats to Mercedes for 10 years of bravery!

I only have partial guesses for this list and speaking of Mercedes I’m guessing she’s #4 because I feel like she’s the most adventurous Autopian willing to spin up a Plex server (I’m watching Cannonball Run II on my Plex server while reading this article.)
#6 has to be Tracy because heaven forbid he absorb any popular culture by watching movies and TV shows.
#7 absolutely HAS to be Adrian because it just is and we all know it.

First off, congrats to Mercedes on the coming out anniversary! I imagine it’s been quite the relief to get to be your true self. As a not very feminine cis dyke, I can somewhat empathize with your journey.

My mostly random guesses:

#1-Matt
#2-Rivers
#3-Jason
#4-Peter
#5-Mercedes
#6-David
#7-Adrian

Hope folks who are into it have a Happy Halloween! I work in San Francisco, where it’s practically a giant city-wide holiday. My work even has a costume contest.

I worked for First Republic for many years.
We’d have costume contests in each major market office (SF, LA, NYC, Palo Alto, Portland, San Diego, Palm Beach, etc) and share our exploits on a huge Zoom call.

The one city who never participated?
Boston.

Plex checks out for David being that its free and seems like shows he would watch.

Also finally got my shirt. Nice design this year and my kids like it. Another package still says “label created, waiting for package” so who knows when that’ll arrive.

I use Plex entirely with stuff that I own and have ripped, not attached to any streaming services (I don’t have any to attach to it).

Same, I just use Plex for my local library and sometimes some of the free shows they put on their service. I don’t have it attached to anything external and certainly don’t allow external access to my Plex.

Plex has to be Jason because he’s the one that would build his own Plex server and host his own movies.
