Yesterday, David published a story that sparked our readership into a charged discussion. The short version of the story is that the driver of a Ford F-150 Lightning tried to charge up, only to find a broken charging station. As the Lightning owner tried to move to the only other charger he could use, a Tesla rolled up and plugged in. As David explains, there were plenty of Tesla Superchargers on deck, but the Tesla owner chose the non-Tesla charger because it was less than half of the price of the Tesla charger. The Tesla driver didn’t budge.
This whole situation reminds me of the scenarios I’ve encountered driving my diesel vehicles. Sometimes, a driver parks at one of the only pumps that dispense both diesel and gasoline. They’ll fill up but then go into the fuel station’s convenience store to conduct other business. I’m a patient person, so I sit and wait for the person to get back. Thus far, in just a couple of these instances, I got called creepy by the vehicle’s owner when they returned. I informed them that since I’m in a diesel car, they’re at the only pump I could use. In other words, I totally get it.
Anyway, as of writing, that article has 265 comments. There’s a lot of amped up debate in there, but then there’s also an entire thread worthy of a new class of COTD: Thread Of The Day. Here it is:

Frustrating and perhaps aggravating, but is it really something to get all charged up about?Goof

He’s just like that Tesla guy in the article. Tsk Tsk.Mark Tucker

IF THIS ENTIRE THREAD DOES NOT END UP AS COTD, I WILL BLOW A FUSE AND IT WILL BE A DARK TIME, INDEED.
Don’t worry, pupmeowmeow, the Prince of Darkness will not be descending onto this site anytime soon. Thanks for the laughs, everyone! You had us all grinning. Don’t forget to set your lights to flicker and tip your waiter.
Autopians just seem to be wired for this kind of thing.
I diode laughing!
OHM OHM Resistance is futile.
Watt a great thread!
15 gas pumps and a Prius parked at the only diesel pump. No owner to be seen. It really tests the limits of my patience as I always have a chain behind the seat of my truck.
I can definitely see your point, which have many others with diesels have also made.
However, as the owner of a gasoline car, who has only ever owned gasoline cars, I just don’t pull into a gas station saying, “Hmm, where are the diesel pumps?” It’s just completely not on my radar to even pay attention. Sure, once at the pump I might vaguely notice that my pump happens to have a diesel handle, and only to make sure I grab the right one. Actually, until this thread, I never even realized that diesel might only be on a few of the pumps! I mean, all pumps get 89, 91, 93 gasoline from different tanks (or mixed from tanks), so why shouldn’t they all have piping from the diesel tank?! Obviously I’ve noticed that some stations have completely separate pumps for diesel, and sometimes I’m at a pump with no diesel, but the exact layout has just never mattered to me or anyone I’ve talked to, at all.
So, I guess I’m saying that these people, and myself, are probably not intentionally rude, we’re just ignorantly rude. I didn’t even realize it was a thing that one could be rude about.
I’ll try to watch out from now on, but I have to admit that pulling into a gas station and worrying about the location of the diesel pumps is pretty low on my list of priorities. But I’ll do what I can.
Now, parking at the pump while they go inside to shop for 20 minutes, that’s a universal issue and is just flat out rude! Move your car after getting gas if you need to window shop for more than 5 minutes!
That this would wind up COTD merely required a bit of induction.
I thought it should be inducted into the hall of fame.
May I be direct? The frequency with which these puns alternate just hertz.
That’s what I like about this site, plenty of range.
Needs a comic book-esque, “>PUN!<” action bubble.
Ohm my gawd. Forcing us to read all those puns is tantamount to assault and battery.
Do you have the capacitance to refuse to read those puns and join the rest of us resistors?
Ok, ok, I’ll conduct myself out…
It would have been a revolting development had this entire circuit not resonated with the COTD conductor.
We’re Autopians: the condition is terminal. 🙂
Yet we bravely solder on.
(nice pitch btw)
I’m here to help. 🙂
Great way to end the day on a positive note.
That thread was very punny to say the least! (- ‿◦ )
