I’ve been inundated recently with some seriously strange for-sale listings, and I need an excuse to share them with you, dear readers. So here’s a quick blog discussing a few bizarre machines for sale around the U.S., and asking you to show us what kind of strange automotive creations you’ve got listed local to you.
The real impetus for this article is an email I got from a reader named Mike. Titled “Custom-bodied Jeep,” the email links to a Craigslist posting for a $700 “Jeep Project” for sale in Walla Wall, Washington, not to be confused with Walla Walla, Australia — sister city to my hometown of Leavenworth, Kansas. The listing includes some rather … interesting photos.
Look at this contraption:
It’s based on a 1975 Jeep with a Super Hurricane straight-six engine. I’m not sure that the Super Hurricane inline-six — found in the Willys Wagons and Forward Controls — was around in 1975, so I’m really not sure what chassis is under this strange body. Nor do I know why someone felt the need to create this bizarre body; why wouldn’t the standard Jeep body suffice?
I don’t know the answer — a statement that applies just as much to this:
I can’t remember which reader sent me that, but it’s an $8000 Pontiac Aztek with custom paint and Lamborghini doors for sale in Lincoln, Illinois.
Honestly, the price seems pretty decent for a custom build, assuming it isn’t a hack-job. Speaking of hack jobs, check out what a reader named David sent me: a “chop-top Jaguar” (per the email subject line):
It’s $9000 in Muskegon, MI, and under the hood is a Chevy 350. A little dear, but it also has a trailer hitch, so it’s about as close to a Jag pickup as you’ll find.
And finally, we have this VW-based Hummer from a reader named Todd. “Here is a link to a Volkswagen-based hummer. Thought it was interesting at least,” reads the note:
For sale for $18 grand in New Mexico, the thing apparently has a “new” 2276cc engine and a new transaxle. “Still breaking in with break-in oil. Too many upgrades to list. Very fast,” says the listing.
It looks like a lot of fun. $18 grand of fun? I’m not sure about that, but fun nonetheless.
Anyway, I figured I’d share some of the fun cars you, dear readers, have shared with me. Feel free to show me more in the comments below!
I didn’t know Jeep made “Squarebody’s” ha ha…and yeah, you need to live in that Aztek too! Just add shower spaghetti (you can make it work) Also, I never thought I’d see a JAAAAAAAAAAAAAAG truck- I’m speechless
Somebody should be strung up for what they did to that Jag.
I expected the Aztek to have something like “Pussy Wagon” on the back.
But I guess “short bus” is an accurate description of the type of person who would do that.
Heaven help me, I actually like the VolksHummer. Not for that price, but it’s neat.

Damn dawg, at least give the people some time for competition before you come in with the winning blow lol!
Well, this has to be the weirdest near me, but I think this came up here before or on the Discord:

David, why aren’t you sleeping in that seller’s fancy Aztec yet?
Hmm, Illinois isn’t that far away from me…
David, you should do a version of this but call it “Delusional Sellers”. Put up vehicles that are way, way overpriced.
This is already that.
