These Are The Most Ridiculous Cars For Sale Near Me, Now Show Us The Weirdest Rides Near You

Weird Near Me Ts2

I’ve been inundated recently with some seriously strange for-sale listings, and I need an excuse to share them with you, dear readers. So here’s a quick blog discussing a few bizarre machines for sale around the U.S., and asking you to show us what kind of strange automotive creations you’ve got listed local to you.

The real impetus for this article is an email I got from a reader named Mike. Titled “Custom-bodied Jeep,” the email links to a Craigslist posting for a $700 “Jeep Project” for sale in Walla Wall, Washington, not to be confused with Walla Walla, Australia — sister city to my hometown of Leavenworth, Kansas. The listing includes some rather … interesting photos.

Look at this contraption:

It’s based on a 1975 Jeep with a Super Hurricane straight-six engine. I’m not sure that the Super Hurricane inline-six — found in the Willys Wagons and Forward Controls — was around in 1975, so I’m really not sure what chassis is under this strange body. Nor do I know why someone felt the need to create this bizarre body; why wouldn’t the standard Jeep body suffice?

I don’t know the answer — a statement that applies just as much to this:

I can’t remember which reader sent me that, but it’s an $8000 Pontiac Aztek with custom paint and Lamborghini doors for sale in Lincoln, Illinois.

Honestly, the price seems pretty decent for a custom build, assuming it isn’t a hack-job. Speaking of hack jobs, check out what a reader named David sent me: a “chop-top Jaguar” (per the email subject line):

It’s $9000 in Muskegon, MI, and under the hood is a Chevy 350. A little dear, but it also has a trailer hitch, so it’s about as close to a Jag pickup as you’ll find.

And finally, we have this VW-based Hummer from a reader named Todd. “Here is a link to a Volkswagen-based hummer. Thought it was interesting at least,” reads the note:

For sale for $18 grand in New Mexico, the thing apparently has a “new” 2276cc engine and a new transaxle. “Still breaking in with break-in oil. Too many upgrades to list. Very fast,” says the listing.

It looks like a lot of fun. $18 grand of fun? I’m not sure about that, but fun nonetheless.

Anyway, I figured I’d share some of the fun cars you, dear readers, have shared with me. Feel free to show me more in the comments below!

How can you post a custom pickup without a picture of what the bed or tailgate looks like?!?!?

I’d drive that.
Price is in the daily driver, not fun toy range though.

It’d be fun to build even… but how they do it? That’s why I was looking for a pic.

So you know, the VW-based Humvee-inspired vehicle was billed as the Hummbug, and they’re actually kind of cute. The proportions translate very well down to the VW scale.

For sale near me is this 1937 Pontiac. Brace yourselves:

$8750 in Maryville TN. Go for it, you know you want to.

Somebody was planning a Beverly Hillbillies remake.

Hummbug? At that price, it’s a VW Bummer.

Howdy, neighbor!

FYI to everyone else, if you come here, it is pronounced Mer·a·vull! If you pronounce it like it is spelled, you will be mocked.

Oh, so you actually say the middle -a-? Highfalutin, ain’tcha?

It’s MURRv’l. Folks west of Cedar Bluff say MARE-v’l.

I adore that Aztek, actually. It looks like a Hot Wheels car; my inner 8-year-old desperately wants me to buy it.

Truth be told, I kinda want it. But someone that looked at it said the dash placement is way too far back and it’s hard to get in/out.

I haven’t seen anything to surpass it in the short while since.

3D print a bunch of hockey pucks with the LEGO logo on them and then glue them all over that jeep… then it will look like it’s supposed to.

Never understood someone who says ‘no problems with the car whatsoever, selling as is’. Just get it safetied you’ll sell it 10x faster.

It’s right up there with “only needs (cheap, easily replaced part) to be perfect.” Then fix it before you sell!

How about an open wheel monoposto vehicle with a Triumph engine?
I learned to drive on one of these and although in certain situations it tends to plow, it will literally turn on a dime or at least a nickel.

I would definitely buy that blue Jeep Thing, It reminds me of an airport tug, but hopefully the bodywork is not made from cast-iron. Walla Walla, Washington, however, is far far away from me. Even at the low low price of $700 I love the looks of airport tugs.
Something tells me that the use scenario for that involved somebody on the passenger side, holding a stick out the door and doing something like painting, lines and parking lots or the side of the road or dispensing fish in mosquito puddles or something like that. Or maybe stepping in and out quickly.
