There’s something so right about a performance car in a full-on Skittles shade. Sure, silver is demure and black is generally good for resale value on regular cars, but come on, let’s skid the rainbow. While reds and blues and common, and yellows pop up here and there, purple is an elusive color in the world of mass-market sports cars. Well, good news: The 2025 Subaru BRZ Series.Purple is bringing one of the best sports car colors to the people, and it won’t cost an absolute fortune.
This isn’t Subaru’s first time offering the BRZ in a limited-run color. There was the Series.Yellow of 2017, the Series.Hyperblue of 2016, and the 50th Anniversary Edition of 2018. However, it’s been a few years since the last special color BRZ rolled into showrooms, so we’re pleased to see Subaru reviving tradition.
The obvious highlight of the Series.Purple is a hue called Galaxy Purple Pearl, a deep purple with highlights that pop in the sunlight. Incidentally, you can also get this shade on the 2025 WRX should you crave all-wheel-drive grip, but for those of us in love with sports cars, the BRZ is where it’s at. Speaking of good color choices, check out those honest-to-goodness silver wheels. Not anthracite, not diamond-cut with black pockets, genuine silver wheels that visually fill the arches. It’s about time they made a comeback.
Interestingly, the BRZ Series.Purple is based on the Limited trim rather than the trackday bro tS trim, meaning it doesn’t come with Brembo brakes or Hitachi dampers as standard. However, it does include a short-throw shifter, additional bracing, and a few token STI cosmetic goodies, such as the shifter and start button.
Speaking of interior bits, while the BRZ Series.Purple doesn’t feature a purple interior, its black upholstery gains grey stitching and accent panels for a little bit of contrast. While it would be nice to see Subaru go a little bit further, it feels hard to complain for the price. With a sticker of $36,615 including freight, the Series.Purple officially runs for $1,700 more than a manual BRZ Limited. However, if we want to go even more apples-to-apples, the price delta shrinks substantially.
As it stands, the short shifter is available on other BRZ models as a dealer-installed accessory for $495 plus installation, the flexible V-bar stickers for $429.95 plus installation, the STI shift knob will run you $215, and the STI starter switch lists for $249.95. Add up the cost of those parts, and they’ll run you a total of $1,389.90 plus installation, bringing the delta between the Series.Purple and a Limited model with all the accessories down to $310.10. I’d pay $300 for purple paint, silver wheels, and contrast stitching, how about you?
Perhaps best of all, Subaru actually seems to be building enough BRZ Series.Purple editions to go around. With a production cap of 500 units, this thing will account for a considerable chunk of BRZ sales, if 2023 sales volume of 4,188 units is any indication. Sure, it won’t be the most common trim of BRZ out there, but it shouldn’t be scarce enough to attract widespread markups. Expect to see the first examples roll into showrooms in early 2025, just in time for some winter fun.

I love my series.yellow! For the paint, not the silly name, but I’m surprised this purple one isn’t combined with the tS bits, mine has the performance pack bits from that year, brembos and such, and I was more after those than the color, much as I have been enjoying it.
If they made a GR86 in this color i think i’d buy one (again)
Purple paint and silver wheels are a step in the right direction. The BRZ/86 continue to be one of the few new cars I would actually consider buying.
There’s a surprising number of purple cars out there if you count the ones that are afraid to be what they are—muddy maroons, blues or blacks in all but the brightest light, and virtually browns. This doesn’t look quite that bad, but I prefer a purple that’s more proud and those are too rare. BMW and Porsche have amazing purples and, of course, Plum Crazy. Silver wheels are a plus and the interior definitely needs some damn color. Even if it’s just light gray accents, that’s better than all black with some different stitching.
God damn do I love purple cars. I’m still pissed at BMW for not offering the M2 in purple at launch. Zandvoort Blue is cool, but I would have gotten purple in a heartbeat. The world needs more purple cars.
I always call Zandvoort Blue “cummy blue” and it makes people mad, lol.

It’s funny.. I was on the fence with it, but when I actually saw it in person, I liked it. Lots of journalists and BMW fans seem to hate it, but almost every time I drive it, someone comments about how much they love the color.
I’d still rather have that Thundernight color that they had as the launch color for the G42 though.
Same, I love Zandvoort and it is the first car we’ve owned that gets random comments from people at traffic lights and at the gas station about the color. That said, if Thundernight had been available, I would have strongly pushed for it.
We have a Zandvoort Blue one and I jokingly refer to it as “Viagra Blue”

I want more than anything to own a BRZ or a GT-86 with a slight lift on a rally suspension with some good AT tires. I absolutely LOVE purple cars. I would kill to buy one of these and do that to it. I can’t tell you how much it pains me that I in no way shape or form can afford a new car now or anytime soon.

Purple is the best car color ever. This is known.
There are some colors a car can come in that make me much more likely to buy said car, purple is one of them.
That being said the WRX is of greater interest to me due to it having AWD.
I firmly believe that black/white/grey should be banned for about 5 years to force colour into the car market.

I get that they’re trying to make something special but I wish they would just offer all the cars in all the colors all the time. What if I want a purple Crosstrek? I should be able to order one, obviously Subaru has buckets of purple paint right there in the factory!
The silver wheels are such a breath of fresh air, but I can’t help but wonder how good it would be on bronze wheels. Bronze wheels just feels right for a sporty Subaru.
I love the silver, but wouldn’t go bronze here. Bronze looks good on bright colors, this purple is too dark for a bronze. Gold on the other hand, would look incredible!
