The Best Thing To Do With A Jeep Patriot Found In A Lake: COTD

Finding a car at the bottom of a lake is always a bit scary. You never know what could be inside. But if there’s nothing terribly sad inside the vehicle, then it’s time to figure out what to do with the thing – and we have just the idea.

Lewin wrote about a Jeep Patriot that has been marinating in a lake for eight years (unoccupied, thankfully). The waterlogged car is bound for the crusher after a potential insurance fraud investigation, but Ignatius J. Reilly has a better idea:

I assume David Tracy has already been alerted. After all, it is the worst Jeep model and should be sent to the crusher. So, it is right in his sweet spot.

Or, maybe not, from Rad Barchetta:

I’m a little surprised they didn’t put it right back in the lake after seeing that it was a Patriot.

Arrest-me Red supports this idea:

“I have 10 days to get this flooded Jeep ready for Moab” — David Tracy

Ignatius J. Reilly drives it home:

“Part of this project will be swapping in a non-running Dauntless V6 that is currently in a reader’s rotted CJ-5 three states away…”

Speaking of David, he wrote about how people are giving their BMW i3s more range using Chinese batteries. But wait, Bob Boxbody wonders how you’re supposed to install these things:

I’m confused because there don’t seem to be any chainsaws involved at all.

Finally, what do you call a Honda Accord with too many wings? Zeppelopod:

Presenting the all-new Honda Discord.

Have a wonderful evening, everyone.

We love David’s ability to tilt at windmills. I humbly request that he christen his next project, Rocinante.

Spoken (written) like a bunch of true smart-asses. I love it, and I’m here for it.

Side note, I leased a Patriot after the ’11 refresh, it was bad but not awful considering how unbelievably cheap it was. Its detractors are judging it against real cars with real pricing.

Wonder if this thing could just be power washed and sent to the high school autoshop class, if that is even still a thing.

I’ve had “bad” cars that I was very fond of. I think the perception problem with a “bad” new car is the perception of what it costs. While a “bad” used car often looks cheap and is therefore judged accordingly, a new car looks new, and therefore expensive, no matter how deeply discounted it might be.
