I always heard this (I think this was from Patrick George, even?) as “car big.”

Maybe “think mobile” is too abstract. We want “car big.” (This is a constant battle at other places I’ve worked for, too. GIVE ME CAR BIG.)

Anyone have a fix for member posts not showing? I’ve done the sign out- sign in dance.

The member vs non-member viewing stat is interesting. I mostly visit the site logged in on desktop, but occasionally I’ll view it on mobile and since it’s so uncommon I’m not logged in on my phone. Could it be that members are more likely to be working desk jobs and slacking off at work, or am I just projecting?

Also, one thing that’s been positive as the internet has gone to a more mobile friendly format is column width has become more fixed at a very readable dimension. Every now and then you’ll come across an old website that fits to screen width and man are those hard to read these days.

Can’t you just write the article on a typewriter and post it as a PDF? You kids just have to make everything difficult. SARCASM FOR THOSE THAT NEED IT WRITTEN OUT.

A very well written and thought out article. May I suggest in columns such as this don’t use headlines that appear to be attacking older people even if after reading the article it makes sense. And don’t misread posters intentions and verify if they are joking but expect readers to know sarcasm without posting sarcasm?

> don’t use headlines that appear to be attacking older people

But you also wrote

> You kids just have to make everything difficult.

… And

> And don’t misread posters intentions and verify if they are joking

But

> headlines that appear to be attacking older people even if after reading the article it makes sense

There are inherent contradictions in your comment there.

Harvey Park Bench is one of my favorite commenters on this site. My only problem is he often correctly points out my mistakes. He is a very reliable and knowledgeable source. That is why I am surprised he didn’t realize
1. I am not an automotive journalist
2. I am not a writer for Autopian
3. I do not write the headlines for Autopian.
But I still respect his comments as mostly more correct than mine.

I love you Harvey. If this site allowed gifs I’d give you a smooch.

I’m reading this article on mobile right now. I can see that I’ve got notifications. Can I click on it and see what they are? No, of course not.

About 100% mobile, because work = laptop and break = phone. And because my phone has killer ad blocking – when I do view on laptop, I’m always stunned by the amount of ad flotsam I see versus the clean content focus my phone Firefox browser delivers. Appreciate the mobile focus, keep on doing the Lord’s work!

I will sometimes scroll through the site on my phone to see what new articles there are, and then I send them to myself so I can read them later on a real monitor.

Blackberry.
Lights up, exhales and stares into the distance.
There’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time.

Remember when they were THE THING, and people were so hooked on them, they called them Crackberries?

Pepperidge Farms remembers…

Free and secure instant messaging. Proper email. The notification light. So many good features. I held out as long as I could. Think the last two I had were the last proper (non-Android) Blackberrys, whatever they were called. Q5 and Z10 maybe? That OS was fantastic. All it would have taken was an app store.

I was issued one and then the company almost immediately moved on. It’s still in its plastic sitting in my drawer at home, unused.
