When you think Bentley, you probably think wood. Great slabs of veneers on the dashboard and doors, rich in warmth and traditional elegance. But what if that isn’t enough wood? What if even asking for extended veneers isn’t enough? Well, this is a life-sized Bentley Continental GT sculpture made almost entirely out of wood, and it recently sold on Bring A Trailer for a whopping $46,250.
This wooden curiosity is the work of Belgian artist and designer Olivier de Schrijver, who’s known for shaping gorgeous and incredibly expensive furniture. Pairs of wooden chairs that cost as much as a decent older used car, for example. Given this sort of background information, it shouldn’t be terribly surprising that this life-sized wooden Bentley features a remarkable amount of detail.

The emblems, for example, consist of multiple layers of wood. It’s a similar deal with the wooden lugs on the wooden wheels, around which sit wooden tires with carved tread patterns. Wooden brake discs do a decent job of hiding the actual metal wheels and hubs that allow this model to roll around, although you won’t find any wooden calipers providing fake stopping power.

Evidence of this level of detail is perhaps clearest on the inside, with dials, buttons, air vents, steering column stalks, speakers, pedals, and even window switches carved out of wood. Sure, the windows are acrylic because it’s pretty difficult to see through a wood veneer, but still. This thing resembles a Continental GT pretty well.

Granted, not everything here is entirely to-scale. The steering wheel’s a bit small, the overall exterior proportions are a bit off, and Bentleys don’t have six-lug hubs. However, it’s all artistic interpretation, and the fact that someone was able to take bits of wood and turn them into something that looks quite a bit like a third-generation Bentley Continental GT is pretty spectacular. Carving wood is hard work, especially when it’s all varying cuts of reclaimed marine-grade teak. Apparently it took more than 3,000 hours to make, and I absolutely believe it.

It’s also worth noting that this wooden Bentley Continental GT isn’t driveable. Sure, it has functional steering and can be rolled around, but you won’t find a W12 or even a V8 under the hood. As such, it’s basically a static display piece, a statement item for an exceptionally niche audience.

Believe it or not, this isn’t the first time this wooden Bentley has been through the digital auction wringer. It was previously listed on Bring A Trailer in October of 2024, and it failed to sell. A high bid of $16,750 simply didn’t meet reserve, so Bentley Indianapolis waited a bit longer and tried again. Well, it seems that the second time was the charm, because a winning bid of $46,250 for a non-driveable wooden sculpture of a modern car seems wild.

The winning bidder’s response seems equally wild, writing in the comments “Thank you all with all the congratulations truly appreciate the great comments. If you guys got any ideas of what I should do with this now that I’ve got this beautiful museum item.” Perhaps the craziest part is that it’s not impossible for the buyer to have sort-of bought it on accident, and as far as impulse buys go, this could be one of the best lore-building ones of all time.

Tata makes actual drivable trucks out of wood, so they could make a Jaguar out of wood too.
Would I?
Peg leg!
I can totally see how this wood be a blackout drunk impulse buy at 3am. The post hangover realization will leave the buyer stumped.
If it were drivable, I expect that it would just kind of lumber along!

I wonder about these pieces, there is a lot of glue/resin holding the bits of wood together, and cnc stuff I guess.
I have a huge table, carved from a fallen Elm, of the oddly seven legs two were glued, thirty years have contracted the joints, now they are tight. OK, it does not look like a car, and I did have to build the room round it but if I was to have a big wooden thing I would rather have a table. Also the off-cuts made twelve chairs.

Just completely gave up on the upholstery. Fail.
I was thinking the same, lots of small details and then those seats that are really not what I would imagine in a real Bentley
I don’t play in the realms of 5-figure art: I’m the type who’ll pinstripe a vehicle costing 1/10 of this with the actual blackberry bushes along a favorite road.
Or maybe spend < a grand for a small wooden model of a Bugatti Type 35: I’m not a complete philistine

For 46K you’ll be able to find an actual Continental GT. No it won’t be in great condition but It’ll still be better than a 30K one.
