Mitsubishi tbd! Hope it stands for turbodiesel
The 6.9 is a great drive. It’s not much for eye candy as it looks exactly like the cheaper models did, even inside. So idk if it would make for a good writeup.
I’d love to read about the OG Celica.
PS: if you need a French freelancer for one of those gigs, let me know.
Alpinas!!
I’ve always loved the 300 SEL 6.3 (Red Pig!) but I’d happily put eyes on the 6.9 if featured.
The Integrale tho.. maybe the least negotiable of the lot. You must.
6.9!
The Lancia for sure. I wouldn’t mind a Jimny review either.
The Alpina V8 Roadster would be interesting, as well as the Lancia, something you don’t see every day, at least where I am. The Lyriq as far as anything new, just to see where Caddy is headed.
I think Adrian should rub it in our faces that we don’t get the Jimny here by reviewing that one.
I don’t feel too strongly about the rest, although I bet he can make any of them exciting or entertaining.
I am mildly curious about the Cadillac Lyriq and Corvette Stingray, though, if I have to pick.
I’ve been bugging Suzuki UK for nearly two years about lending me a Jimny for a review, although I think they only have the commercial version (no rear seats) on the press fleet. Sadly they don’t seem to be interested letting me borrow one.
My local chevy dealer has a dozen Lyriqs on the lot. I bet yours does too. They will gladly toss you the keys.
I’d have to go with the Mk2 GTi and of course the Lancia, but the 450 is an incredibly close third.
Lancia Delta Integrale. And I want to see Adrian try to fit in the Toyota Sera.
Don’t make me choose -Do them all.
Lets start with a comparo of the 6.9 vs an EQS AMG (whatever random number that is) vs new S63
This is obviously a very biased list:
In order of most to least Want To See Driving:
Wish the Polestar 1 wasnt static, but would still love to hear what you think of its design.
’55 Cadillac my beloved <3 <3 <3
Also interested in whatever the Mitsubishi tbd is. A mystery car! Surprise us! I hope it’s a base Mirage from the mid-’90s.
Opel tbd, Jimny Horizon, the classic GTIs and Delta Integrale are all interesting, too.
Alternately, come drive my Volkswagen Type 4, haha.
Well I’m glad *rhis* was the conversation I had this morning that made TFTS and not the other one.
Wait, what was the other one??
That’s between me and the Slack.
booooooooooo (fine)
We always find out, so you might as well tell us now. At least this way you’ll have some control over the narrative.
We’ll find out next week
The Delta Integrale is an easy choice. I’d be curious to hear about how one of the most influential hot hatches drives compared to the hot hatches of today. I’ll also throw my hat in the ring for the Alpina. Unfortunately they were only sold as automatics…which is unbelievably lame, but I still think the Z8 is one of the greatest designs of the last 30 years and would love to hear our cranky uncle’s takes on it.
How about the OG AE86 to round it out? That’s one of those cars that has a reputation for being truly transcendent, to the point that people will pay bonkers prices for them today. JDM bros would literally sell organs for one. I’d love to know if it’s worth the hype of if it’s one of those “never meet your heroes” type of cars.
The Delta Integrale called to me like a lady of negotiable virtue. AE86 will be interesting. I drove an NA Miata a while back and it was disappointing.
Perspective is important. Drive a Lancia Ypsilon for a week, then take the Miata for a spin. That’s what I did a while back, and it made the Miata feel like an F1 car.
I was lucky enough to meet one of my heroes 4 weeks ago. Fortunately the R32 lives up to it’s godlike status. My friend also has an AE86 but I haven’t seen it yet. If you’re interested in meeting your heroes and are in the Chicago area, sometime in October he and his friends that have been acquiring these really cool cars are going to soft-launch a business where you’d be able to drive these 2, an FD and maybe an FC RX7, a replica of the green eclipse from the OG F&F movie, hopefully by then they’ll also have a Capucino, a Beat, and an NSX, and a few more I don’t know about on track at Autobahn Country Club in Joliet. You won’t be able to set hot laps, but will have a driving instructor with you with the goal of keeping the car at about 80% – 90% of the car or driver’s limit.
Sadly I live in DC and the car scene around here is kind of hit or miss. There are lots of extremely wealthy people with fancy toys they like to show off but not as many people that are serious about driving as far as I know. I go to Dominion Raceway in VA right outside of Fredericksburg for track days but my experience there has been pretty meh.
Some folks and instructors are cool as hell, others not so much, and it’s definitely pay to play. The guys with the nicest stuff usually get priority. I’m not sure if that’s just the norm across the board but it definitely irks me a little bit. I need to do another day with an instructor before they let me go out on my own during HPDE days and I may like it more then.
I really struggle with having an instructor in the car with me. I have pretty severe but overall well managed anxiety and getting constant feedback while trying to stay safe on a hot track is kind of information overload, and if you make a mistake you WILL be called out on it very publicly.
But anyway, I know Autobahn because that’s where Savagegeese does their track tests. It seems like an awesome place. And this seems like a really cool idea. There are tons of famous cars I’d love to drive but could never own for one reason or another. I’d love to just get a chance to drive a few without having to buy them or go test drive them.
I can’t be trusted with test driving my heroes…not necessarily because I can’t handle powerful cars (I can, although I do know my limits) but because I know myself and I’d wind up coming home with one and having a lot of explaining to do/potentially a divorce lawyer calling me lol.
Have you done Friday at the track at Summit Point WV? I did it several times maybe 20 years ago and it was big fun. I just bought a trackable car again, so I’m thinking I’ll get back up there
Honestly it would make an interesting story to test drive the ’55 Cadillac 60 special back to back with the new Lyric and compare two products from the same company serving the same market segment (most luxurious car in the world, or near as makes no difference) but separated by 70 years.
The story concept is interesting in itself, but Adrian would bring a unique perspective on it – not only his expertise on the design front, but also how does a Brit react to the pinnacle of American luxury, built at the height of America’s most excessive decade, design-wise? It’d be a fantastic read, IMO.
I like this idea quite a lot!
I think the Celestiq would be a better match, since thats the super-fancy fastback sedan, not the more plebian cross-over
I would have to agree with this. It would make for a very fun read!
If something is the very best example of whatever it is, in the UK we might call it “the Rolls Royce of X”, and in the US the equivalent phrase is “the Cadillac of X”.
Convergent marketing departments perhaps?
Since the mid-70’s, the US has migrated to the RR comparo. Cadillac hasn’t been a standard of anything but malaise up until the CTS-V, their 21st century show cars notwithstanding.
Lancia Delta Integrale please
I was just writing up a comment to complain that nobody’s said this yet
I stopped reading after the Delta Integrale and immediately scrolled to the comments to see if it had been suggested yet.
Surely I can’t be the only one who would enjoy Adrian driving a ’50s Cadillac?
It’d be like an ’80s music video, like when MTV still showed things like that.
“Right…..now heheheheheh.”
Going to drive it around blasting ‘Black Planet’ by the Sisters.
The Spanish version Secret Agent Man by the Plugz.
Can Adrian fit in a Suzuki swift and drive it? That’s what I want to know and see!
I reviewed one last year.
Toyota Sera, solely because I am aggressively lusting after one, and want someone to drive it, remind me it’s extremely boring, and convince me it’s a bad decision. My brain knows it’s boring to drive, but my heart sees those doors. Oh those doors. yes.
I’m guessing the Sera is what Matt suggested. ???? indeed
???? = Sleepy emoji
If for nothing else but the absurdity factor, I’d love to see Adrian drive the Toyota Sera.
Corvette C2 Convertible? I doubt it would be great to drive by today’s standards.
I’m wondering what that Opel is. A classic Opel GT, or any of the Opel GT concepts(including record setting diesel streamliners and an EV), as well as an Opel Speedster or an Opel Eco Speedster would be very interesting.
These seem pretty awesome tbh
I was unaware of all the companies that offered tbd models. Even Mitsubishi has a tbd on the list.
