What Do You Want To Know About The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N? Special Member Chat In The Discord Tomorrow

Our pal Joel Johnson, when not camping in his 911 or helping me clean my BMW, goes on all sorts of adventures as part of the consulting business he runs with Alex Roy. His travels have taken him out to San Francisco and he’s managed to shake a Hyundai Ioniq 5 N out of the press fleet.

Even better, he’s going to hop into the Member’s Only room in our Discord and will do a little Q&A, tomorrow, Friday, May 23rd at 12:00 PM Pacific/3:00 PM Eastern. He’s also just answering random questions as the weekend goes on, so feel free to pop in and ask questions there.

Is it going to send the drivers speed, deceleration, g-force, and trip data to data broker companies like Lexi’s nexus who will sell it to the insurance companies? Because if it does …it defeats the entire point of buying a 600+hp N car ???? unless you like knowing every time you drive it the way it was designed to be enjoyed it will be used to nickel and dime you for for auto, boat , life insurance till they put you in the ground. God help you if you track it, let a valet park it, put it up on Turo or let Doug Demuro drive it for cars and bids.

Does this still use the same battery cooling as the non-N’s? As I have been interested in the ioniq 5 but saw they need their battery coolant changed every 30k miles and for me if I do go EV for a daily it would be nice to have less maintenance then a ICE. Which is weird because the Kia sister car EV6 has a different coolant that only needs to be changed at 120k miles.

Ok a bit of a strange question: is it too much? By that I mean, as a semi daily driver would you prefer a more optimized performance car rather than “maximize everything”? Something more… in between the regular Ioniq 5 and the N. A better handling machine with a bit more punch but also not so harsh with maybe better range.

I might be a bit jaded by all the EV hyper everything.

1). How well does it carry its weight? The thing is 5,000 freaking pounds, and while I clearly trust the N folks to deliver an entertaining driving experience I worry about how chunky this is being an issue.

2). Does the added theater enhance the experience or detract from it?

I like to ask people, ‘What feature or quirk (positive or negative) actually made you say out loud, “Well, that’s cool! or “What in the hell…?”’
