Remember last week, after a full week of being left alone to fly the ship by our editorial team, and I decided to use that terrible freedom to post what has been proven to be the most challenging taillight sushi quiz known to humankind? Of course you do; one doesn’t forget something like that. Well, in the comments on that post, a post that was based on trying to identify what taillight I was attempting to represent via hand-drawn sushi, some people said they’d really like some taillight sushi shirts. Well, guess what, bishes? I listened and am happy to say you can order taillight sushi shirts right now.
Oh, you don’t believe people asked for these shirts? Really? Fine, I’ll show you, look:
See? I didn’t make it up! This time, instead of going through our pals at OHOAT we’re trying a bit of an experiment. In order to make this happen fast fast fast, we’re trying an alternate method, one volunteered by, yes, my wife, who has this sort of quick-to-print infrastructure set up at her own online store. But none of that really matters for you; all you need to know is that you can click here and you can order a genuine taillight sushi shirt, in one of four colors!
Plus, we stuck some other stuff on there, just for the hell of it, if you want a license plate frame or some sweatpants:
This is an experiment, really. If you like the idea of making some goofy joke in the comments or seeing some fun image or illustration in a story and then having it become a wearable shirt a few days later, then show us! Or tell us! Or both! We’ll still have our other OHOAT Autopian merch, of course, but this is another and hopefully fun option.
So, show the world you believe in taillight sushi, by wearing it!
UPDATE: Just to show off, some of you suggested new license plate frame ideas. They now exist in reality. How about that!
What is this fantastic stuff? I have touchscreen free cars AND rusty ones. Two plate frames sold. If I send a photo or rust sample, can I get a signed certificate from David that it’s a proper rusty heap?
So, my kid just arrived at this world (28/07) and we got to have sushi for the first time after 9 long months (yes, like THAT is the main takeaway).
Imagine my surprise when I got this deluge of sushi madness while catching up on my reading 🙂
Congratulations on the sushi! AND the baby!!!
Torch, you glorious bastard. Take my damn money NOW.
Also, does anyone around here know where I can get help curbing my uncontrolled internet shopping habit?
Right?
I just opened my package with new hats as I came in the door—and now am about to order a plate surround and yet another Autopian tshirt!
Huh-guess I picked the right week to let go the last vestige of my nicotine habit?
edit to add: really like the hats! I like the old low-slope style—not foam dome—so these are perfect. And the adjustment being buckle type not elastic means I won’t likely lose one to the wind
At some point we’ll realize the smokes are healthier, but until then… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Well, my cat immediately nested in my Autopian hoodie; that wouldn’t have gone down well with an ashtray of butts 🙂
Any chance of getting the Autopian license plate frame in the green color on the website banner? Also, perhaps in bright “electric” yellow? The green would look nice on my Polestar 2 and the yellow would be killer on my Celeste-Blu 500e.
“My other car is full of cats”
“Certified Feline Maternity Ward”
“My other car is full of possums”
I just wanted the sushi, not a shirt. I have too many shirts and never enough sushi.
welding helmet in lead image an insider easter egg, or are you a nuWho 42 fan? or both?
This is nice, and I do like the idea of quick-turnaround ideas->shirts. Please don’t be offended that I’m (probably) not going to buy one of these, but that’s only because it’s hard for me to bring myself to spend $30. on a t-shirt, no matter how charming they are. I don’t mind being perceived as a cheap bastard… it’s the only thing that let me get the mortgage paid off early despite a decade+ of very inconsistent self-employment.
Despite this, and please ignore the following suggestion if you like, I just wanted to mention that it might have been nice to include the year/mfgr/model of the relevant car below each sushi illustration on the shirt. Not in huge, attention-grabbing print, just normal/modest text, like a caption under a photo. Otherwise, almost everyone else seeing the shirt (even car enthusiasts probably) will have no idea that it’s a shirt about taillights, rather than oddly shaped sashimi. If that doesn’t appeal, maybe put the ID text on the back in a ‘no spoilers’ sort of way? Though that’d probably cost more.
My other suggestion is that instead of relatively photogenic millennials modelling the shirts, it might be nice to see Autopian staff and their families/pals as the models. I strongly suspect that they look more like us (the Autopian members/readers) than the fresh-faced twentysomethings. I.e.: Jason and Otto wearing shirts, hats, etc… Plus, maybe this would help qualify Otto for eventual SAG/AFTRA membership… it might come in handy down the road when he’s buying his own health insurance, you know? 😉
This is just my POV on this matter and again, zero offense is intended. Jason, you already know that I adore all of you. 🙂
100% appreciate your POV, but just for some context – I’m 99.9% certain the model photos are embedded into the e-commerce platform, and at time of writing the sushi t-shirts do not actually exist. For Jason/Otto to pose riding in the Pao whilst eating sushi in sushi shirts (which I absolutely want to see), they would have to buy samples, wait for production/shipping, and then post the pics and hope that Autopians buy enough to offset the cost of modeling.
Either that or Jason would have to spend time faking the images for the website, which would only add to the backlog of car reviews and/or birthday drawings.
Yes, of course you’re probably right and it occurred to me that models were part of the marketing infrastructure there. Still, I stand by the ‘regular car guy’ model idea, and Jason and fam are like from central casting in that regard (IMO). 😉
Me: “I don’t wear graphic tees.”
Sees sushi taillight shirt.
Me: “Apparently I wear graphic tees now.”
How did you find models so fast? And perfectly matching twins to boot. ( minus the height, of course )
Just ordered the license plate frame!
My card doesn’t stay on file does it?
no card kept on file, I promise
Just ordered mint XL
Brilliant!!!
(grabs a pair of chopsticks)
(puts money where mouth is)
Why are you putting money in your mouth with chopsticks? I’m so confused!
The addition of the chopsticks renders the idiom literal.
That is confusing.
But how else am I supposed to pick up sushi merch? With my bare hands like an animal.
This is awesome
You should make additional bumper stickers –
“My Other Car is a Shitbox”
“Oxide Certified by D. Tracy”
Maybe a license plate surround for those B.L. owners
“I’d Rather be Mending the Electrics”
“My Other Car is a Holy Grail”
“Adrian says it needs bigger wheels”
“Certified Touchscreen Free”
“If it had more rust, David Tracy would own it”
Fully behind this second suggestion, as long as the frame is black.
In case you thought I was kidding about us being able to turn around these things fast, BOOM: https://www.totalsally.com/product-page/holy-grail-metal-license-plate-frame and https://www.totalsally.com/product-page/dt-rusty-metal-license-plate-frame and https://www.totalsally.com/product-page/shitbox-metal-license-plate-frame and https://www.totalsally.com/product-page/touchscreen-metal-license-plate-frame
WOOOOOOOOO
WOW!!!
How about one that just says “Holy Grail”? I need that for mine.
You are truly outdoing the competition, well done.
Does anyone out there in Autopianland who lives in either Amer or Ica have any interest in proxy shipping me one of these bad boys to Soviet Canuckistan (Canada)? I can have it shipped to you and then Paypal whatever actual shipping comes to. Slide into my DMs (do we have those here?)
No one else is stepping up, so I will. I don’t have PayPal or any money apps, tho. An old fashioned check would work for me if you still use them.
No idea about private messaging.
What about: “My other car is worse” or “If you think this is a shitbox, you should see my other car”
Woo hoo! Shirt and license plate frame are on there way!!
Mine too!
-after talking about driving shitboxes all my life, that surround is perfect
(just cause there’s an emoji in the bar there doesn’t mean it will actually come out as an emoji —that’s worth an edit, right?)
