If You Ignore The Front End, It Looks Pretty Sweet: COTD

Vision Bmw Alpina Cotd

Today, BMW dropped the first Alpina to be designed by the now-absorbed, formerly independent tuner brand, and as is so often the case with new BMWs these days, the styling is, er, not for everyone. But as a generator for Comment(s) Of The Day? It’s gold.

That is not an Alpina, that is an ugly piece of…but at least it’s better than a lot of their recent stuff…

I think it’s not bad looking, not totally my cup of tea but we’ll see how it stands the test of time. This looks like what Jaguar was going for when they ended up with their abomination

If you ignore the front end it looks pretty sweet.

The under grill bumper line reminds me of Din Djarin’s Mandalorian helmet. Ridiculous kidney shaped grills … This is the way

DialMforMiata seized upon this bit from BMW’s press copy with sarcastic glee that made me lol, and also set up Mechjaz for the sort of dirty joke that I enjoy because I am basically a middle-schooler:

Behind the rear console, a glass water bottle sits beside BMW ALPINA crystal glasses that rise on a self-deploying mechanism. Each glass is engraved with 20 deco-lines and features a sixdegree rim profile, held by concealed magnets and softly lit against the open-grain center console.

DialMforMiata
Enough about the car. How about some pictures of those kickass GLASSES! 20 deco-lines? A “six degree rim profile”? Hidden freakin’ magnets? BMW IS BACK, BABY!!!

“Six degree rim profile” was my username on –

The Bishop took us deep down the Ford Courier rabbit hole today, a rabbit hole that turned me onto a movie car I had been, until then, completely unaware of (that’s it above, I’m sure you figured it out). I instantly imagined all the fun I could have with a bright-red Courier topped by a replica of The Hut’s signature ziggurat roof – it’s a party on wheels in a way that new Alpina could never be. Though not a clever comment, Carbon Fiber Sasquatch speaks for me:

I need that Pizza Hut truck. The Pizza Hut roof on it is amazing

Have a great evening and a wonderful weekend, everyone!

Gleaming the Cube reference on that Pizza Hut truck? Best skate movie of all time.

This is the first BMW where I actually kinda like the front end design.

Is this just a refreshed 8 series? The size and proportions are suggestive.

If one is an artist, one can absolutely take artistic license in creating something. This? This is taking that presumption too far.

Off topic, but how do I turn off email notifications for replies to my comments? I can’t find any way to do this.

Is it all comments? I’ve spent the last 15 minutes rummaging around for a clear, straightforward control to no avail. There is a little bell icon beside “post comment” that you can use to enable/disable notifications of replies.

You’re not alone though, a couple days so I was getting emails for a thread I definitely hadn’t signed up for. If I find a more robust setting I’ll let you know.

I’ve only gotten email replies for certain users when I have inadvertently clicked the “follow this user” icon while scrolling.

That front end is what the British call “a dog’s breakfast”.

Whoever designs the grilles for BMW products needs to be sent to the Chinese forced labor gulags.

A harsh but appropriate sentence for unleashing this abomination upon the world.

That topshot looks like the scene in a new Back To The Future movie where Marty Jr. returns from 2030 to 1995.

The crazy thing is that would be an even bigger time jump than in the original film.

I kinda dig the front, it’s giving some F-15 intake vibes

An F-15 with those aerodynamics would never fly, and it would be laughed out of the sky by adversaries. Furthermore, no pilot would want to be seen in it or admit to flying one.

Scrolling down to see what the headline car looks like from the front cause how bad bout it be?

You could have pit a trigger warning – cause that’s the Goatse of grills.

It is a bad idea to buy a company that does things your company can’t do and expect to run it properly instead of ruining it.
