I was today years old when I found out that Knight Rider is possibly subject to yet another reboot. Thanks to today’s Autopian Asks, I ended up falling down a rabbit hole of so much Knight Rider. If my math is correct, the show has returned to the screen four times, five if you count the pilot TV movie to 2008’s Knight Rider, then there’s the spin-off Code of Vengeance, books, and don’t forget about the four video games.
Apparently, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn wants to make a reboot of Knight Rider, and back in 2021, David Hasselhoff suggested that there was one in the works. News has been pretty quiet since then, so who really knows what’s going on? Still, that makes us wonder, what would Knight Rider look like if it were written by an Autopian? Well, you lovely readers delivered the goods.
Reader EmotionalSupportBMW wins COTD with this really specific idea:
Scene: It’s 2009 and the Hoff is replacing a strut on Kitt. His wife Brenda, who is a total buzzkill. comes in with iPhone 3 and tells him about Cash for Clunkers. He tells her he will trade him in for a Aveo. He is a GM guy. So he drops Kitt off at the dump. Hoff’s son Zach Braff hears about this over dinner. He’s like what the hell. He tracks Kitt down to a group of Albanians in Paris. He fights them on a boat. He duels their boss Gal Gadot. She tells him that C4C was all a plot to get rid of Kitt because he has proof that VW has been cheating their emissions on various diesel vehicles. She then takes of in a Aveo with the USB of Kitty’s memory. Zach gets in Kitt and says “it’s time for one last ride”. Car chase though Paris. Numerous Aveos being blown up. Kitt has two machine guns and a jet pack. Vin Diesel shows up with Charger and helps them out. Saves the day. Kitt and Zach have coffee on the Seine as Zach starts school at Paris State. I present F&F 11: Night Rider.
Honorable mention goes to chewcudda for this creative answer:
Beau as Devon Miles
Jason as Michael Knight
David as Bonnie/AprilTorchbug as KITT
Though, now I’m left to wonder, what characters will Thomas, Adrian, Stephen, the Bishop, and myself play?
[Editor’s Note: I’m a bit disappointed no one considered shifting the show to be about Knight Ridder, the major American news and media organization that was sold back in 2006. It could be like Succession! – JT]
Finally, we have one more honorable mention from today’s Cold Start. Jason loves including brochure images depicting old cars filled up with lots of random junk. Ok, mostly random junk. For whatever weird reason, lots of vintage car ads show people carting around birdcages. This old Saab is no exception:
What are those people doing!? Well, amberturnsignalsarebetter wrote one bizarre take:
After disposing of grandma’s body and taking all the valuables from her cottage in the woods, Annika & Sven knew that the neighbors wouldn’t suspect anything until the lawn was knee high at least.
By then, her life savings will have been withdrawn from the bank in Helsingborg, the birdcage will be for sale in an antique store in Stockholm, and the proceeds will be finding a new life in the Caribbean. They would be sad to leave their Saab behind, but apart from that it was the perfect murder.
All of you are wonderful, mad people. Have a great evening!
KITT’S memory needs to be uploaded to the Chang Li, just saying
Who knew Michael Bay went by the alias EmotionalSupportBMW?
Chat GPT came up with this script.

Michael and KITT embark on new adventures, ready to take on any challenge that comes their way, protecting the innocent and fighting for justice in a world powered by technology.
THE END.
It’s interesting that The Autopian invited readers to do some writing for TV during the WGA strike. Are they anti-union? Did Disney pay them a truckload of money to try to get content from non-union workers? Does this make commenters who responded to the invitation “scabs”? The more I ponder the curiouser and curiouser it becomes.
I think that’s more than a little disingenuous since many of us are still active WGAE members, have donated to the striking workers, or in the case of the site’s publisher, were out there on the actual picket line yesterday supporting the strike. The things they’re fighting for, like better pay and protecting this career path from AI, have a direct correlation to what we do here and we hope they come out on top.
Sometimes a post about Knight Rider is just a fucking post about Knight Rider, man.
I think he was making a joke.
“joke” is a little generous, it seems. That word implies an element of humor which, it appears, my post was devoid of.
“Did Disney pay them a truckload of money to try to get content from non-union workers? “
Here’s the truckload of cash I got:

I think that the show should be more a comedy reboot. David Cross as the new Michael Knight, with both Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim joining a rotating cast of villainous foils. The car? Who could forget that? Well, it’s important too, let’s just take a Hyundai N Vision 74, which already almost looks the part, save for a row of LED’s to allow the car to talk. Also, the original show had a killer theme song. Since the synthesizer-led original theme would be the inspiration, and this is a comedy show, let’s get Tim Gane on the Moog to make a modern, playful swingy take on it. Then, because you recognized Gane’s name, you then realize that you like music more than cars now and then abandon the Autopian, only to ever post on music sites. This is madness.
Just anything without David Hasselhof in it, thanks.
Then how about one of his daughters… Taylor-Ann or Hayley?
To be fair to Hollywood, much like what we’d like car manufacturers to build, our ideas would make no money.
If an amateur can come up with a brilliant concept like this, the writer’s strike is doomed.
That and they are sort of making their own case as to why 85% of them could be replaced with GTPx
As long as there are English departments in universities, there will be unemployed writers with large student loans to pay off.
Thanks for the hat-tip Mercedes!
Bloody typical though – there’s a typo in my short tale of Scandinavian skullduggery (it was meant to say funding, not finding). If I keep this up, I might one day reach an editorial standard worthy of this fine establishment. One can dream!
JT, at least I suggested Knight Shotgun Rider!
